The brain is the central organ that regulates all interactions that occur in the body. However, brain performance will not be maximized without the help of the nervous system. The nervous system that is spread to all parts of the body plays an important role in human daily life. So it is important to be aware of damage to the body's nervous system.
The nervous system is in charge of delivering messages from all parts of the body to the brain and vice versa. For example, the brain gets a message from a member of the body, for example a hand that hurts from touching a hot pot. Then, the nerves in the skin of the hand send the message in the form of pain to the brain. After that, the brain sends a message back to the muscles to pull the hand from the pot.
Various Kinds of Nervous System and Its Damage
The body has billions of nerves, spread throughout the body. The nerves are grouped into three parts, namely:Sensory nerve
Thanks to the sensory nerves, you can feel all the sensations that occur in the body, such as pain when being pinched, also feel the sweetness of candy, the chilliness of chili, or the bitterness of the drug.
Motor nerve
You can control the movements of limbs because of the help of these nerves.
Autonomic nerve
This nerve controls the activities that occur without us being aware of the body, such as blood pressure, digestion, heart rate, and body temperature.
Sensory nerve
Symptoms that you might experience if the nerve is damaged are numbness, tingling, burning skin, body aches, or more sensitivity, and disturbance of body position awareness.
Motor nerve
Damage to the motor nerves may make the body weak, muscle atrophy (muscles that shrink), paralysis or paralysis (you cannot move certain parts of the body's muscles), or twitch.
Autonomic nerve
If this nerve is damaged, you may experience dry eyes, constipation or difficulty defecating, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), dry mouth, dizziness, being unable to feel chest pain, bladder disorders, or sexual dysfunction.
Causes of Damage to the Nervous System
There are many conditions that can damage the nervous system. This is related to several health problems that you might experience, such as:- Diabetes
- Lack of vitamins
- Electrolyte disturbances
- Addicted to alcohol or drugs
- Impaired blood supply
- Have suffered injuries to the head and spine
- Carbon monoxide poisoning or arsenic
- Brain infection
- Parkinson's
- Alzheimer's
- Hepatitis
- Cancer
- Stroke
